Ohana Hanshu Summer House

Visitors Guide

This house, which was built as a summer home by the fourth lord of the Yanagawa clan, Akitora Tachibana, was renovated in the year 1908 (Meiji 41). Since the summer house’s nickname was Iris, now it is called as Ohana (flower). The Nationally designated scenic garden, Shotoen was created to mimic the Matsushima Islands. The Western style buildings and halls were built in the about 249,100-square-foot (23,140-square-meter) premises. In the Ohana Museum, swords (important cultural assets) and armor and belongings of the former lords like the first one, Muneshige Tachibana who is known as a valiant general are exhibited. Because of the recent feudal warlord boom in Japan, Muneshige has gained popularity once again, and many history and feudal warlord fans visit there.
